A large 434 acre water supply reservoir, constructed in the early 1960s by Cardiff Corporation to provide a source of clean drinking water for the rapidly growing city of Cardiff.
Now owned and cared for by Welsh Water we are a hub for health, wellbeing and recreation here for you to enjoy. The body of water that formed after building the dam created a haven for birds, wildlife, walkers and watersport enthusiasts alike.
A designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in recognition of its value to over-wintering wildfowl our watersports season runs from 1st March to 31st October.
Welsh Water is a not-for-profit water company. We don’t have shareholders, which means that we put every single penny we make straight back into keeping bills down and looking after your water and beautiful environment – now, and for years to come.
